Single-car crash kills Castle Rock man
Published: 09.17.10
A Castle Rock man was killed when his vehicle
crossed the centerline on Santa Fe Drive and crashed into large boulders
on the side of the road.
David H. Kjorvestad, 32, was traveling
northbound on Santa Fe Drive when his black Toyota pickup drifted across
the double yellow line just north of Sedalia. Witnesses reported that
around 3:43 p.m. Kjorvestad’s car crossed into the southbound lanes,
before going down an embankment on the west side of the road, hitting a
group of boulders. Kjorvestad, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was
pronounced dead on the scene, said Trooper Heather Cobler, Colorado State
Patrol.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Cobler said.
The state patrol closed southbound Santa Fe Drive for about three hours,
beginning at 4 p.m., for crash-scene investigation. Authorities diverted
traffic on southbound Santa Fe Drive near Sedalia, while Kjorvestad was
extricated from the vehicle. The Jaws of Life were used to remove him from
the car.
The crash remains under investigation and investigators
are looking into the possibility of distracted driving or the use of
illicit drugs, Cobler said. No other injuries were
reported.
